The Sonoran desert is part of the immense American corridor of desert ecosystems that extends from southeast Washington, in the US, to the state of Hidalgo in the central plateau of Mexico, and from central Texas to the Pacific coasts in the Baja California peninsula. This arid corridor covers almost a million square kilometers.
